Historical Tour of Sudan

Sudan (Khartoum, Omdurman, Naga, Musawwarat, Meroe)

In Sudan go on a city tour of Khartoum, including the National Museum, home to the salvaged temples of Upper Nubia and the frescoes from the Cathedral of Faras. You will also have the opportunity to visit the place where the Blue and White Niles meet. From Khartoum you will visit the bazaar of Omdurman, House of the Khalifa and the ancient cultic center of Nagaa- home to the Temple of Amun, Roman chapel and the Lion temple. En-route to Meroe there is a stop in Musawwarat, to view the temple area and its rare elephant depictions. Meroe, commonly known as Nubia is located along the banks of the Nile River. There are close to 200 pyramids in this relatively small area, the Meroe Pyramid was built 800 years after the last Egyptian pyramid.

  1. Day 1: ARRIVE KHARTOUM, SUDAN

    Arrive Khartoum, Sudan; meet assist and transfer to the hotel.

  2. Day 2: KHARTOUM

    After breakfast go on a City Tour of Khartoum.

    Highlights will include:

    • Visit to the National Museum; home to the salvaged temples of Upper Nubia and the frescoes from the cathedral of Faras.
    • Ethnographic Museum.
    • Lunch in a restaurant by the Nile.
    • Motor boat trip to the confluence of Blue and White Nile.

  3. Day 3: KHARTOUM – OMDURMAN – NAGA

    After breakfast, go on a tour of Omdurman.

    Highlights will include:

    •  House of the Khalifa that has been transformed into a museum.
    • The mausoleum of the Mahdi.
    • The bazaar of Omdurman and other popular markets.

    In the afternoon drive to the ancient cultic centre of Nagaa with the meroitic temple of Amun, the Roman chapel and the lion temple.

  4. Day 4: NAGA – MUSAWWARAT – MEROE

    After breakfast, drive to Meroe with a stop in Musawarat to view the extensive temple area covered in rare elephant depictions. Arrive in Meroe in time for dinner and overnight.

  5. Day 5: MEROE – KHARTOUM

    After breakfast, go on a full day tour of Meroe, more commonly known as Nubia. Visit the Meroe Pyramids located along the banks of the Nile River. There are close to two hundred pyramids located in a relatively small area. The Meroe Pyramid was built 800 years after the last Egyptian pyramids and constructed from large blocks of sandstone.

  6. Day 6: DEPART KHARTOUM

    After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
