Before You Travel

South Africa now requires anyone entering or leaving the country by air, land, sea, or rail to submit a traveller declaration. This applies to all visitors, including US travelers.

Submit online no more than 24 hours before your final flight into South Africa. The same window applies when you leave.

Each traveler files a separate declaration, including infants and children, completed by a parent or guardian on their behalf.

Use a valid email address. You will receive a confirmation to present on arrival.

File through the SARS Traveller Management System, the SATMS mobile app, or a Scan-to-Declare QR code at the airport.

Passengers who only transit and do not leave the designated transit area are exempt.

No need to worry if you file late. You will not be denied entry or departure for an incomplete declaration. Customs officers and self-service kiosks are available at the airport to help. Filing in advance is simply faster.
