Cameroon is one of Africa’s most culturally diverse nations — a country of over 280 ethnic groups, ancient kingdoms, colonial-era towns, volcanic highlands, and an Atlantic coastline shaped by history. Known as “Africa in Miniature,” it compresses an extraordinary range of landscapes, peoples, and traditions into a single destination.
This 6-day cultural circuit takes you from the commercial energy of Douala deep into the highlands of the Bamileke and Bamoun kingdoms, where royal palaces, living dynasties, and master craftspeople have maintained their traditions for centuries. From there the journey descends to the colonial mountain town of Buea on the slopes of Mount Cameroon — the highest peak in West and Central Africa — before reaching the Atlantic coast at Limbe, where a 1999 volcanic lava flow meets the sea and a profound slave heritage site offers a moment of reflection and historical reckoning.
Palace Travel has been designing Cameroon itineraries since 1991, with ground teams who know these roads, these palaces, and these communities. This is a journey that rewards the curious, the culturally engaged, and the historically minded traveler.
