Explore Senegal and The Gambia for 10 days on this fascinating tour. Highlights of this tour include Goree Island, Pink Lake, Juffureh and relaxing at Saly Beach Resort. Also visit the vibrant markets and national monuments in Dakar and Banjul.


Arrive Dakar. You will be met, assisted and transferred to your hotel. Today’s activities will be determined based on your arrival time. You may relax and unwind or start the tour of Dakar and vicinity.
Overnight at Novotel Dakar


This morning take a 20-minute ferry ride to Gorée Island. The tour includes a visit to the ethnographic museum and a lecture by the curator on the history of the Goree, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon return to Dakar and go on a city tour. Visit the colourful markets including Tilen Market, famous for a variety of medicinal herbs and traditional healers. Stop by Dakar’s grand Mosque, the Presidential Palace, and the Artisans Market.

Overnight at Novotel Dakar


After breakfast, depart to Saint Louis located in the north of Senegal. Stop in Lompoul for a camel ride on the sand dunes; from the top dunes enjoy a panorama view of coastline. Continue to Saint Louis. Afternoon, city tour of Saint Louis. Explore the narrow streets flanked by houses with carved wooden balconies and verandas in the, visit the fishing village of Guet Ndar.

This morning complete the city tour of Saint Louis then depart to Kaolack in the South of Senegal. Stop at Touba, the holy city of Mouridism. Continue to Kaolack an important regional market town and Senegal’s main peanut farming,   trading and processing center.

Overnight at Le Relais


Depart to Banjul. Detour for a journey “up-river” to one of Gambia’s most visited site, Juffureh, the land of Alex Haley’s “Roots”. You will arrive first in Albreda which gained fame in the period of slavery as a result of its Flag Pole, which many believed would guarantee freedom to anyone who touched it after escaping from nearby James Island. Observe the ruins of the Sao Domingo Church, reputed to be one of the oldest churches in West Africa, erected by the Portuguese during the 17th century. Continue to the village of Juffureh to where the ancestry of “Kunta Kinte” of Roots fame was traced. The restored original home of the Kinte clan still occupied by the Kinte family can be visited during your time here. Early evening, continue to Banjul.

Day 6: Banjul / Abuko Nature Reserve / Banjul

After breakfast tour of Abuko Nature reserve, Gambia’s principal wildlife Reserve. See chimpanzees and other animals including a variety of exotic birds. Drive back to Banjul. In Banjul, visit the National Museum showing the history of the Gambia. Continue to the markets, Batik factories, monuments and other points of interest.

Day 7: Banjul / Kantaur

After an early breakfast, depart for Kantaur to see the famous Stone Circles. Take ferry to Barra. From  Barra, drive to Kantaur in eastern Gambia and visit The Wassu Stones Circles believed to be the burial mounds of Kings and chiefs in ancient times over 1,200 years old and has been dated to between 750-1000 AD. Overnight in Kantaur at Khairo Garden.

Day 8: Kantaur / Kaolack

After breakfast, depart the Gambia and drive to Kaolack. Enroute visit traditional Mandigue and Serere villages. Arrive in Kaolack for overnight.

Overnight at Relais de Kaolack

Day 9: Kaolack / Saly

After breakfast, drive directly to Saly and stay at leisure OR drive to visit Joal which is the birthplace of Senegal’s first President Leopold Senghor. Visit the fish market and Senghor museum. Then continue to the traditional Serère village of Fadiouth where you will visit the cathedral, the market place, the sacred Baobab tree and the famous cemetery where Muslims, Christians and animists are buried together. Continue to Saly visiting road side villages.

Overnight at Palm Beach

Day 10: Saly / Dakar /Depart

After breakfast, morning is at leisure before afternoon transfer to Dakar for your onward flight.
