Uganda is known as the Switzerland of East Africa. Come tour its mountainous forests such as those found in its Bwindi National Park. You will also tour Queen Elizabeth National Park, known for its extensive game reserve.

  1. Day 1 Entebbe, Uganda

    Arrive Entebbe; meet assist and transfer to your hotel.

  2. Day 2 Kampala/Bwindi

    Drive to Kibale Forest area, the drive is approximately seven hours. After leaving the Lake Victoria Basin pass through beautiful agricultural countryside where every type of fruit and vegetable imaginable is grown. Upon reaching Kyanjojo, in the lower foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains {Mountains of the Moon}, we drive through beautiful tea plantations and into Kibale tropical rain forest. Our accommodation is at the Beautiful Ndali Lodge situated on a high saddle between two crater lakes. You will savor the breathtaking views and cooler climate at Ndali. The lodge was built by the late Captain Mark Price, a British tea farmer, and is operated as a working farm by his family today. The rooms are decorated with local crafts and materials, and feature high ceilings and four-poster beds. There is no electricity at this lodge, but ample candle and oil lamps are provided in the evening, creating a romantic feel of “old Africa”.

  3. Day 3 Bwindi National Park

    Today we take forest and swamp walks to see the rain forest and view birds and primates, including chimpanzees. Walking is not difficult, paths have been made in the forest and all walks are conducted by experienced local guides.

  4. Day 4 Bwindi/Queen Elizabeth

    Drive to Bwindi via Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive passes through Fort Portal and then south along the eastern length of the Rwenzori Mountains {Mountains of the Moon} with the hope of seeing the glaciated peaks. We drive for approximately 7 hours descending into The Great African Rift Valley to Queen Elizabeth National Park and continuing to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, passing through the scenic area “The Switzerland of East Africa”.

  5. Day 5 Queen Elizabeth National Park

    Gorilla Tracking Day. After breakfast we take a short drive to Park Headquarters to meet with the local guides and trackers who will instruct us on the etiquette of gorilla trekking. We then hike into the forest to begin the trekking which can take from 1 to 6 hours and climb to altitudes in excess of 7,500 feet. The terrain is rough and although the hike is physically demanding the beauty of the forest and surrounding scenery make the trekking worthwhile. Once the Gorillas are located all fatigue is forgotten, as the experience is often described as being the most profound natural history experience in the world. Efficient cameras and plenty of fast speed film is recommended for capturing this rare experience.

  6. Day 6 Queen Elizabeth/Kibale Forest

    Second Gorilla tracking day.

  7. Day 7 Queen Elizabeth/Kibale Forest

    Drive to Mbarara passing through the Switzerland of East Africa area and eventually into Ankole Cattle country in Mbarara. These handsomely rare cattle have unusually large horns. The driving today is about 6 – 7 hours. If time permits we will browse through the interesting local market, where everything including clothing meats, fruits, vegetables and whole animals are on display for sale. Overnight at your hotel on the outskirts of Mbarara.

  8. Day 8 Queen Elizabeth/Kibale Forest

    Drive to Entebbe, which takes about 5 hours. If time permits we will stop in Kampala for shopping and a visit with the Mpigi Royal Drum Makers. Arrive at the airport to connect with your onward flight.
