Gabon Cultural Experience, 11 Days
Day 2 LAKE EVARO | | After an early breakfast, our guides will take you on a 4x4 vehicle through Gabon. You will drive through hilly and green surroundings to many small villages. This tour will show you the beautiful nature of the country and also a climb of its culture. You will meet the citizens of Gabon and learn more about their ways of living.
In the afternoon, you will be transferred to a boat for a ride on the Ogooue River towards Evaro. Evaro is located in a beautiful lake district in Moyen-Ogooue province. The region is famous for its lakes and it’s an ideal base for excursions. Visit the protestant missionary post in Ngomo and enjoy spotting pelicans, birds and hippos.

Day 3 LAKE EVARO | | After breakfast you will enjoy a full day of excursions. You will have the option of a bush excursion, or a visit to Lake Evaro or Lake Onangue.
You may also visit the rehabilitation project that cares for orphaned gorillas and chimpanzees.
In the evening, you may enjoy a dip in the swimming pool and a good cocktail before diner.

Day 4 LAMBARENE | | After breakfast, you will visit one of the most spectacular and historic places in Gabon. The Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Lamberene was founded in 1913 by the German doctor Albert Schweitzer. The museum gives an overview of his life and the history of the hospital. You can visit Schweitzer’s room, his wife’s room and the conference room that served as a dormitory for nurses before his death. Behind the house is a cemetery with the doctor’s grave.
Pick up some souvenirs from the gift store and later, return by road to Libreville.

Day 5 EVENGUE ISLAND | | After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Omboue. After check in at the lodge, you will take a short boat trip to the small gorilla sanctuary island.
After lunch you will meet with our eco –guides and experts to explain the gorilla program. You will take a short bush walk that leads to the gorilla family living area, where you will encounter the gorillas at a close proximity.
Later in the afternoon, you will have free time to discover the island on foot or by kayak, or simply enjoy the tranquility and views from the terrace.

Day 6 MISSION ST. ANNE | | After breakfast, you will take a boat trip over the ‘black water’ Mpivie River. You will visit the small town St. Anne to see the iron church built by Gustav Eiffel in the 1800’s. Designed and built in Paris, it was shipped in sections to Gabon over the water, and eventually using elephants to pull it out. Other features of interests are the missionary post and the ‘bamboo cathedral’ where ceremonies are held occasionally.
In the afternoon, continue on the boat through some dense rainforest as you enjoy seeing monkeys, crocodiles and various birds including fishing owls. After two hours, you will be transferred on a 4x4 Jeep or by boat to the lodge with a game drive enroute.

Day 7 TASSI SAVANNAH CAMP/ AKAKA FOREST CAMP | | After breakfast, you will drive on a 4x4 vehicle to Tassi /Louri Area( wet season) or Akaka Camp (dry season).
During the drive to Tassi, you will encounter elephants, red river hogs, buffaloes, and an abundance of birds. The camp is surrounded by primary and secondary forests. You may also visit the Max Planck Institute to learn the habituation program of the gorillas and chimpanzees.
In the dry season, the boat departs for a 4hour journey to Akaka across large lagoons. Akaka is one of the most remote parts of Loango National Park. The forests are rich in butterflies and harbor a number of bird species

Day 8 TASSI SAVANNAH CAMP/ AKAKA FOREST CAMP | | After breakfast, you will go on a safari at the Tassi Camp where you will spot gorillas and chimpanzees. You may also take excursions to Louri area where you will see buffaloes, hippos and elephants among other animals.
At the Akaka, the forest camp is in the heart of the tropical rainforest. Akaka is a good starting point for excursions like forest walks, kayaking on the Rembo Ngowe and Rembo Echira rivers or motorized boat trips along the rivers. You will see the migrating forest buffalo and elephants.

Day 9 LOANGO NATIONAL PARK | | Arrive Loango Park in time for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you will discover other parts of the park either by car into the savannah, or foot into the mangroves, by kayak over the lagoon or by boat along the shore.
You will have an opportunity of joining an archaeology research team specializing in whales, manatees, leatherbacks and crocodiles to learn more about the Loango projects.

Day 10 PT.ST. CATHERINE BEACH CAMP | | After breakfast, depart for a safari in the Loango National Park. You will have a choice of a picnic lunch or return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, take a boat tour over the lagoon to the Point St.Catherine beach camp. This basic camp is situated on the beautiful spot on the beach, north of the Park.

Day 11 DEPARTURE / SUNDAY | | After breakfast, you will be accompanied to the airstrip in Omboue for your flight back to Libreville. You may extend your stay in Libreville or Sao Tome and Principe on the beach.
In the evening, you will be transferred to the airport for your international flight.
