Egypt Highlights, 7 Days

Day 1

ARRIVE IN CAIRO

Day 2

CAIRO/ PYRAMIDS & SPHINX/ EGYPTIAN MUSEUM/ KHAN BAZAAR/ ASWAN

After breakfast, drive through the scenic streets on our way to the great pyramids of Giza, to see the 3 gigantic pyramids, and the Giza Plateau with the royal, private tombs and the village of the workers who built the pyramids dating back to 3000 B.C.

You will also see the Sphinx, half human half lion statue, and the Valley temple and (Optional) you may visit the amazing Solar Boat museum that was discovered about 5,000 years ago.

After lunch, drive through the streets of Cairo on a guided tour to downtown Cairo to visit the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities with its amazing collection of artifacts from Ancient Egypt. (Optional)You may also visit the mummies room where at least 12 mummies are well preserved.

In the evening, visit Khan El Khalili Bazar , which is an Oriental Bazaar that goes back to the 10th Century. You will stroll through the streets of the Bazaar and set at its Oriental Cafés to drink exotic traditional drinks and enjoy the traditional Hookas (water-Pipe) with apple-flavored tobacco.

Pick up from Khan El Khalili for a transfer to Cairo Railway station. Overnight in private train sleeping cabin.

Day 3

ASWAN/ HIGH DAM/ UNFINISHED OBELISK/ TEMPLE OF PHILAE

In the morning, arrive in Aswan. Transfer to your cruise ship where you will spend the next 3 nights / 4 days.

After breakfast, take a tour of Aswan High Dam which is one of the world’s largest embankment dams. You will also visit the granite quarries which supplied the ancient Egyptians with hard stone used to build the pyramids and temples. The quarries still hold the Unfinished Obelisk, possibly intended as a companion to the Lateran Obelisk, originally at Karnak but now in Rome.

Continue on a motor-boat ride to the Temple of Philae on the island of Agilka. The temple was dedicated to Isis, patroness of the Ptolemaic rule. Sail around Elephantine Island on a felucca, the traditional Egyptian sail boat. Elephantine Island is the largest of the Aswan area islands, and is the site of some of the most ancient remains in Egypt. Elephantine is Greek for Elephant. The name may indicate that the island was once a center for the trade of ivory.

In the afternoon sailing in a felucca on the Nile to Kitchner Island (also known as Lord Kitchner's Botanical Garden. Lord Kitchner imported plants from around the world to create his famous garden. You will then view the Aga Khan Mausoleum, an elegant pink granite structure built in the late 1950's.

Sail to Kom Ombo, and visit the Temple shared by the two gods Sobek and Haroreis, Then sail to Edfu and overnight on Board

Day 4

EDFU/ ESNA/ LUXOR

After Breakfast, visit Edfu temple of Horus. Set out on a horse-drawn carriage to visit the Temple of Horus, the most perfectly preserved of all the Nile temples. Horus, also known as Haroeris, was the falcon-headed solar war god.

You will return to the cruise and Sail to Esna through Esna Lock, and Luxor. Overnight on Board.

Day 5

LUXOR/ WEST BANK/ VALLEY OF THE KINGS/ QUEEN HATSHEPSUT/ MEMNON

After breakfast, Cross to the West Bank of the Nile and visit the wondrous Valley of the Kings, a vast city of the dead, where the magnificent tombs of 62 pharaohs have been discovered. Visit the Temple of Queen Hatsheput.

On the way back to your Nile cruise, stop at the famed Colossi of Memnon, two 66ft, 1 thousand ton statues of Amenhotep III. These colossal statues were known by the ancient Greeks to emit haunting voices at dawn.

In the evening, a possibility for an optional Sound & Light Show at the Karnak Temple). Overnight on Board.

Day 6

LUXOR/ KARNAK/ CAIRO

After breakfast, visit Karnak Temple, in the north of Luxor, called by some "the Temple of Temples" It is the largest place of worship ever built. It was built over more than two thousand years by generation after generation of pharaohs.

You will then visit the graceful Temple of Luxor built by Amenhotep III and Ramesses II for ritual and festivals and dedicated to the god Amun and see its gigantic statues and obelisks.

Disembarkation and transfer to the train station for your trip to Cairo. Overnight in private sleeping cabin of train.

CAIRO / DEPART

Arrive in Cairo in the early morning.
