Backroads Of Senegal, 13-days

Day 1

ARRIVE IN DAKAR
Upon arrival in Dakar, you will be met, assisted and transferred to your hotel. Day at leisure.

Day 2

DAKAR - CITY TOUR - GOREE ISLAND
After breakfast, half day city tour of Dakar. You will pass the colourful markets of Sandaga, Tiline and Kermel; the Great Mosque, IndependanceIndependanceIndependence Square and the shopping centers on Pompidou Avenue, the Presidential Palace, the IFAN Museum, where a fine collection of West African masks is housed, the Cathedral and end up at the handcraft village of Soumbedioune. Afternoon departure on the ferry boat for your discovery tour to Goree Island. You will view the colonial buildings, the historical slave house where the curator will narrate the past. After lunch return to Dakar

Day 3

DAKAR - THIES TAPESTRY - PINK LAKE
After breakfast depart to Thies. Visit the National Gallery of Tapestry, continue to the Pink Lake where you will have lunch before a 4x4 ride in the sand dunes surrounding the lake before continuing to TOUBAB DIALAW.

Day 4

TOUBAB DIALAW - BANDIA PARK
After breakfast depart Sabobade for a tour by four wheel drive vehicle of Bandia., an animal game reserve. Chance to see wildlife such as Crocodiles, Antelopes, Rhinoceros, Monkey, Buffalos, Giraffe among others.… Observe the legendary big Baobab tree which has been used during the past century as cemetery. Inside the private game reserve there is a bar restaurant where you may stop and take some refreshment. Continue to Saly beach resort.

Day 5

SALY - JOAL FADIOUTH
Joal birthplace of Senegal’s first President, Leopold Sedar Senghor and it’s picturesque twin, Fadiouth a village covered with oyster and clam shells. The food supplies are housed in granaries built on stilts.

Day 6

SALOUM ISLANDS
Depart early morning after breakfast to Saloum Island where you will cruise along the winding Saloum River to discover an incredible bird and the village people who still maintain their unique culture and traditions. Enjoy lunch before continuing to Niassam

Day 7

NIOKOLO KOBA GAME RESERVE
Early morning departure to the national Park (913 00 Ha) of Niokolo Koba, via Kaolack, Kaffrine, Koumpentoum, Tambacounda. Late in the afternoon arrive at Simenti lodge deep inside the game reserve.

Day 8

NIOKOLO KOBA GAME RESERVE
Guided tour on four wheel drive, Morning and evening game drives watch the wildlife such as Horse Antelope, Elephants, Monkeys, Lions, Bush Pigs, Hippos, Crocodiles etc..

Day 9

NIOKOLO KOBA GAME RESERVE / KEDOUGOU
After breakfast, depart to Kedougou through Bassari area where you will see a fantastic landscape. Stop for lunch at Salemata then continue to Camp

Day 10

KEDOUGOU
After breakfast drive to Dindefelo . After a 30 minutes foot climb you will reach the spectacular 80 meters waterfall. You may take a bath here. After your Picnic lunch you will cross Niokolo Badiar to Darou Salam Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 11

KEDOUGOU - ST. LOUIS
Depart Kedougou after breakfast heading to St. Louis, Senegal’s former colonial capital. Arrive in the afternoon and check into the Hotel

SAINT LOUIS
Full day tour of Senegal’s former capital with its narrow streets and colonial architecture. Evening at leisure before dinner and overnight at the Hotel

Day 13

ST. LOUIS – TOUBA – DAKAR
After breakfast, depart St Louis for Dakar, while en route visit the Holy City of Touba, founded in the middle of the desert by Ahmadou Bamba, a revered Holyman who started the Pan Africanism struggles in Senegal. You will stop for lunch at Diourbel and continue to Dakar where you will have Dinner in a Local Restaurant before your evening transfer to the Airport for your onward flight.
