Day 1 Arrive In Accra

Your flight arrives in Accra, Ghana. You will be met, assisted and transferred to your hotel in Accra. This afternoon we will do a city tour of Accra and vicinity.

Day 2 Accra/Cape Coast

After breakfast, orientation. Then depart to Cape Coast. Enroute, visit Aburi botanical gardens. Arrive Cape Coast early evening and check into your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 Cape Coast-Elmina

Today you will experience the grand opening of PANAFEST, 2007. The grand opening includes: Durbar/Grand Procession of Chiefs, traditional rulers, and Queen Mothers. Eminent personalities, Pan Africanists and artists in a royal display of pageantry.

Day 4 Cape Coast-Elmina

Pan-African scholars and activist conference opening activities. In the evening attend PANAFEST activities.

Day 5 Cape Coast - Elmina

African scholars and Activist Conference on Pan Africanism. Afternoon escorted tours.

This afternoon we will visit (Elmina Castle) Fort Sao Jorge de Elmina – the site of the first European contact with West Africa when the Portuguese landed here in 1471. Elmina Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was built in 1482 and is the first European structure in sub-Saharan Africa. The castle was also used as a Slave Prison.

In the evening attend PANAFEST activities.

Day 6 Cape Coast - Elmina

Day tour of Cape Coast and vicinity including the “ Slave River” at Assin Manso, the burial site of two former slaves from the U. S. and Jamaica whose remains were re-interred in August 1998 during Ghana's first Emancipation Day Celebration.

We will visit the “Slave River” where captured Africans had their last bath before being confined in the Slave Castles to await shipment to the Americas.

This afternoon we will visit Cape Coast Castle and the Castle Museum for a guided tour. Cape Coast Castle is another restored UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Castle was one of the embarkation points for Africans being shipped to slavery in the Americas. Cape Coast was the capitol of Ghana during the Colonial Era.

In the evening, attend PANAFEST activities

Day 7 Cape Coast/Ada Foah/Accra

Travel to the coastal area where the Volta river meets the sea at Ada Foah. You will pass through remote villages where we will make brief stops. Villages include: Nkawkaw, Koforidua, Somanya, Afienya and Dawenya. Late evening return to Accra.

Day 8 Accra/Depart/New York

Decide on your activities with the assistance of the driver and guide. Then depart to New York. Arrive New York late evening.
