Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Libreville, Gabon

Arrive Libreville; meet assist and transfer to Hotel.

Overnight at Le Meridien Re-Ndama Hotel Libreville or Similar

Day 2 Evengue Island

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Omboue. After check in at the lodge, you will take a 20minute boat trip to the small gorilla sanctuary island.

After lunch you will met our eco-guides and experts to explain the gorilla program, Yu will take a short bush walk that leads to the gorilla family living area, where you will encounter the gorillas at close proximity.

Later in the afternoon, you will have free time to discover the island on foot or by kayak, or simply enjoy the tranquility and views from the terrace. Meal(s) Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Overnight at Lopé Hotel or Similar

Day 3 Mission St. Anne

After breakfast, you will take a boat trip over the ‘black water’ Mpivie River. You will visit the small town St. Anne to see the iron church built by Gustav Eiffel in the 1800’s. Designed and built in Paris, it was shipped in sections to Gabon over the water, and eventually using elephants to pull it out. Other features of interests are the missionary post and the ‘bamboo cathedral’ where ceremonies are held occasionally.

In the afternoon, continue on the boat through some dense rainforest as you enjoy seeing monkeys, crocodiles and various birds including fishing owls. After two hours, you will be transferred on a 4x4 Jeep or by boat to the lodge with a game drive enroute.

Day 4 Akaka Forest Camp / Tassi Savannah Camp

After breakfast, you will drive on a 4x4 vehicle to Tassi /Louri Area( wet season) or Akaka Camp (dry season).

During the drive to Tassi, you will encounter elephants, red river hogs, buffaloes, and an abundance of birds. The camp is surrounded by primary and secondary forests. You may also visit the Max Planck Institute to learn the habituation program of the gorillas and chimpanzees.

In the dry season, the boat departs for a 4hour journey to Akaka across large lagoons. Akaka is one of the most remote parts of Loango National Park. The forests are rich in butterflies and harbor a number of bird species.

Dry season is May-Sept, the rainy season is Oct-Apr.

Day 5 Akaka Forest Camp / Tassi Savannah Camp

After breakfast, you will go on a safari at the Tassi Camp where you will spot gorillas and chimpanzees. You may also take excursions to Louri area where you will see buffaloes, hippos and elephants on the beach.

At the Akaka, the forest camp is in the heart of the tropical rainforest. Akaka is a good starting point for excursions like forest walks, kayaking on the Rembo Ngowe and Rembo Echira rivers or motorized boat trips along the rivers. You will see the migrating forest buffalo and elephants.

Day 6 Loango National Park

You will arrive Loango in time for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you will have a choice to discover other parts of the park by car into the savannah, on foot into the mangroves, by kayak over the lagoon or by boat along the shore.

You will have an opportunity of joining an archaeology research team specializing in whales, manatees, leatherbacks and crocodiles to learn more about the Loango projects.

Day 7 Pt. St. Catherine Beach Camp

After breakfast, depart for a safari in the Loango National Park. You will have a choice of a picnic lunch or return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, you will take a boat tour over the lagoon to the Point St.Catherine beach camp. This basic camp is situated on the beautiful spot on the beach, north of the Park.

Day 8 Lope National Park

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the Iguela airstrip for a flight to Lope. You will be met by a hotel staff and assisted to the Lope Hotel.

Lope National Park is one of the largest national parks in Gabon. You will enjoy the mosaic of rain forest and savannah. During the last ice age more rain forests were replaced by savannah.
Here, you can go for a walk to the Marantaceae forest, a savannah drive or go to Mount Brazza.

Day 9 Mikongo Camp

After a morning of leisure and wildlife viewing, you will be driven to the Mikongo Camp by a 4x4 Jeep. The Camp is a perfect location to search for primates. Six species of monkeys including the Colubus and mandrill live in the forest as well as the elusive western gorillas and chimpanzees. You will have a chance to see reptiles such as crocodiles, the Gabon viper and the cobra. This Camp is established by the Zoological Society of London research camp.

Day 10 Mikongo Camp

After breakfast, join a camp walk in the forest using an extensive network of paths that allow you to personally tailor the walks based on the length and difficulty. You will be accompanied by a guide and tracker and will set out on an exciting search for mammals. To maximize the chance of seeing wildlife and having a true unique rainforest, each guided group has a maximum of four visitors. You will have an evening of leisure and relaxation at the Camp.

Day 11 Lope National Park

After breakfast, return to Lope. This area is a place of archaelogical value. Lope has a rich bird life. More than 400 species have been identified amongst others the Dja River warbler, African river martin, fire-crested and brown-chested Alethes.

One of the possibilities is to go to the Eco Museum or at the Kongo Boumba rock engravings and enjoy the village walk.

Day 12 Libreville

After breakfast, you will have the opportunity to go Mandrill tracking in Lope. Large groups of Mandrills have been recorded. They are currently being studied as little is known about these primates. During the tracking, you will encounter gorillas, monkeys, and elephants.

In the afternoon, you will be picked up from the hotel and transferred to the Libreville station for the train to Libreville.

Day 13 Departure

After breakfast, you will have the opportunity to visit Libreville, Gabon’s capital, by taxi or by arranging an optional City tour.

In the evening, you will be transferred to the airport for your international flight.
