The fully renovated luxury 5 star Sunbeach Hotel & Resort is situated on an unspoilt coastal corner of Atlantic Ocean and inlet of the majestic River Gambia.
Situated in Bakau this hotel boasts a unique swimming pool with a central bar. The rooms are on the small side and the beach is unsuitable for swimming. There is a man-made sun bathing beach area but unless you are fit enough to climb up and down all the steps that lead to it you won't want to use it too much. Handy for reaching all the bars and restaurants in the Bakau area and local transport is close by, so no expensive taxis. As always, the staff are very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is excellent with nice rooms, friendly staff and good service. Swimming pool, bars and restaurant. The beach is good, nice soft white sand but the foreshore tends to be a little dark in colour and has a certain odour.
This could be due to it being situated on the estuary of the River Gambia and not far from the shipping lanes into the port at Banjul.
The Atlantic is Banjul's only first class hotel. An easy cool-weather walk from the town centre, opposite the Gambia's Foreign Ministry on the old Marine Parade, the capital's shadiest and most 'colonial' thoroughfare, which Tomkinson (Gambia book) tells us began as the protectorate's Regent Place and in 1999 became Muammar al Gadhafi Avenue.
The Atlantic has a spacious, landscaped frontage with a drive in past security to the front doors. To the right is parking space and a small taxi park

the Laguna Beach Hotel, formerly known as the Wadner Beach Hotel, is reported to be offering a good standard.
The name changed (but not the reputation) since the river mouth's heavy erosion elsewhere resulted in a sand barred lagoon here (so wide as to warrant a boat-ride from the hotel to the main beach at high tide!). The late name of Wadner Beach has been refurbished
It was built by Britt Wadner who, having set up the world's first offshore pirate station and then worked for the ill-fated Radio Caroline, (incidentally one of the hulks visible from Bund Road in banjul) started The Gambia's commercial Radio Syd in 1967 and the hotel in 1970

The Paradise Inn was founded in 1996. The original plan for building and exploiting a lodge in this style was the idea of Mr. Paul Bakary Jallow. At first 5 small type huts were built and later the others, which are substantially wider in diameter. The huts are built in the traditional style of the Fula Tribe. They are typical round huts that offer you the rare combination European comfort in the traditional African style. Each room contains a shower, toilet, sink and is equipped with a double bed and small living room. Your room have outside bamboseats and table with a superb wiev over the reserve.
